OCTOBER 12, 2024 — Allen County, Indiana, has launched public voting to select a new flag from the top eight designs as part of its bicentennial celebration, reported The Journal Gazette.
According to the survey website, the county accepted flag submissions from January 1 to March 29, narrowing down 124 entries along with over 230 designs submitted by students at Croninger Elementary School. Although the student entries lacked the required forms to be considered officially, their ideas and design motifs, including frequent references to local icon Johnny Appleseed may influence the final designs.
Currently, Allen County lacks an official flag, using an old seal on a white background instead, according to the county website. This initiative aims to create a new flag that reflects “the best representation” of Allen County, as the county asked for participants to follow the principles outlined in “Good” Flag, “Bad” Flag.
The public survey, which you can access here, opened today and will remain available until the end of October 26. The winning flag will help commemorate Allen County’s 200th anniversary.
