OCTOBER 14, 2024 —The City Council of Miguelturra in Spain, in collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer, AECC), has unveiled a special flag to mark the International Day Against Breast Cancer, observed on October 19, reported Lanza Digital.
The event was part of the city’s support for the cause. Carmen Asensio, president of the AECC chapter in Miguelturra, referred to October as “the pink month” and stated that “with this small detail of placing the banner, we make a nod and show our support for the fight against breast cancer.”
The flag is pink and featured a white line forming a stylized breast. The text “Día 19 de octubre” (19 October), “Día Internacional contra el Cáncer de Mama” (International Day Against Breast Cancer) and “Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer en Miguelturra” (Spanish Association Against Cancer in Miguelturra), alongside the association’s logo, are also seen on the flag.
The color pink, often used as a symbol of hope and strength for those affected by breast cancer, also carries its own controversies regarding awareness and advocacy efforts.
