History Society Proposes New Flag for Mill, Netherlands

OCTOBER 17, 2024 — Myllesheem, a local history society in Mill, Netherlands, has proposed a new flag for the town, according to De Gelderlander.

The flag featured a design that includes the iconic stone chimney, a well-known landmark that dominates the skyline. According to the town’s tourism website, the chimney, once part of the now-closed Van Hout lumber mill, is affectionately nicknamed “the biggest lie in Mill” due to the town joke that “even the chimney was made of wood at Van Hout”.

Myllesheem hopes that local politicians will move forward with adopting the design.

The history society was founded in 1975, and specializes in the medieval history of the town, according to their official website.
