OCTOBER 26, 2024 — As Turkey prepares to celebrate the 101st anniversary of its Republic on October 29, students across the country are holding exhibitions featuring flags made from recycled materials.
These projects aim to foster environmental awareness while celebrating national pride.
At Gazi Umurbey Preschool in Gaziemir, young students organized an exhibit titled 101 Shades of Our Flag, showcasing 101 flags crafted from items such as bottle caps, cotton, foam, and plastic, reports Timeturk. Five-year-old Zeynep Güneş Öner, a participant in the exhibit, shared her experience: “We made flags for the school from recycled materials. I used spoon paint and paper. It was a lot of fun.”
Meanwhile, Bomba 32 reports that in Isparta, İstiklal Kindergarten launched a similar exhibition, One Flag from Every Hand, One Flag from Every Heart, featuring about 120 flags.
“We are very proud to realize this exhibition to strengthen our national unity, which we need the most at the moment,” said İstiklal Kindergarten teacher Mürüvvet Balım. “One of the aims of our project is to draw attention to recycling.”
