United Arab Emirates Celebrates 12th Flag Day

NOVEMBER 1, 2024 — The UAE is observing its 12th Flag Day celebration today, ahead of the usual date of November 3, The National reports.

Citizens and residents are expected to display the national flag widely, as urged by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to ensure maximum participation. The occasion, introduced in 2013, coincides with the anniversary of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s presidency in 2004.

Addressing the public, Sheikh Mohammed shared on the social media platform X, “We celebrate the flag of the nation. We celebrate the symbol of our country.” Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, Attorney General of the State, also commented on the flag’s role in fostering unity, saying, “We celebrate the UAE Flag Day as one family under our wise leadership.”

The UAE’s flag, designed in 1971 by Abdullah Al Maainah, incorporates four colors representing values: white for generosity, green for growth, black for resilience, and red for sacrifice. Selected from over 1,000 submissions, the design went on to symbolize the new federation and is now a prominent emblem of national identity and pride.
