Proposal to Add USSR Flag as Official Victory Banner alongside 150th Rifle Division Flag

NOVEMBER 10, 2024 — A new initiative has been proposed to grant the USSR flag the status of an official Victory Banner, recognizing it alongside the current 150th Rifle Division banner as a symbol of Soviet victory in World War II, The Petersburg Diary reports.

Alexei Zinchuk, a deputy in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, has put forward a proposal to make the USSR flag an official Victory Banner, sharing the symbolic status currently held by the 150th Rifle Order of Kutuzov 2nd Class Idritsa Division flag. Zinchuk shared news of his initiative on his Telegram channel.

Legislated by the Russian Duma in 2007, the 150th Division flag, hoisted over the Reichstag on May 1, 1945, is the current official Victory Banner and serves as a symbol of the Soviet victory during the Second World War.

Zinchuk’s proposal has been forwarded by the Legislative Assembly’s Legislative Committee to the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation for further consideration.
