NOVEMBER 11, 2024 — The village of Kob’, located in the Kobinsky Municipality of Irkutsk Oblast, presented its first official flag and coat of arms at a concert last weekend, bratsk.ru reports.
Kob’s new flag, developed by heraldic designer Y. Y. Rosich of the Eurasian Coat of Arms Center, was chosen from three initial designs approved by the Kobinsky Municipal Duma on July 28, 2023 and submitted to the State Heraldic Register, according to geraldika.ru.
Now, the final selection was unveiled.
The design, based on the coat of arms, features a 2:3 green field symbolizing the surrounding Siberian taiga. A red-footed falcon in silver, known locally as the “kobchik,” spreads its wings, with gold details accenting its beak, eyes, and talons. Beneath the falcon, a white band with spruce motifs and blue waves represent the region’s coniferous forests and location near the Bratsk Reservoir, specifically Kob’ Bay, a popular fishing area.
Resident Elena Egorova stated, “The bird on our flag is called kobchik. And it represents the name of our village… We know what they look like, and they are ours.”
Kob’s first historical record dates to 1723, when three families resided there.
Resident Nina Levdir shared her pride in the village’s milestone, saying, “Today our village has been honored. Now we will have our own flag, like a real, small country—a flag that will unite our residents and link together the past, present, and future.”
