Signed Flags, Drone Fragments Become Collectible Items in Ukraine

NOVEMBER 12, 2024 — In Ukraine, the collection of military artifacts from the ongoing conflict with Russia has become a rapidly growing hobby, with some items fetching their “weight in gold,” RBC-Ukraine reports.

Military memorabilia from the Russian-Ukrainian war, including signed flags, personal equipment, and even fragments of drones, have surged in value as collectors and historians vie for these artifacts.

The items range from high-value objects, such as a Ukrainian flag signed by Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov, listed on Violity at 10,000 hryvnia (around $241 USD), to more widely circulated items like shell casings, uniform pieces, and captured equipment.

The seller for the flag, Anton Voronin, said he was a member of the Armed Forces and that “all the money will go to buy a pickup truck for our brothers.”

Captured Russian uniforms, helmets, and even destroyed military equipment like tanks and armored personnel carriers symbolize Ukraine’s resistance and are often seen in patriotic exhibits and museums.

Also popular are documents abandoned by Russian troops, including maps and operational instructions, which attract both collectors and historians for their insights into the conflict. With drones playing a notable role on both sides, drone fragments have become especially desirable for collectors.
