NOVEMBER 18, 2024 — Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman has confirmed that efforts are underway to create a new city flag, following a social media post that announced the initiative, according to The MoCo Show.
According to Mayor Ashman, while no designs are ready to be unveiled yet, the city is actively working on concepts for the new flag.
The current flag features a logo of an oak tree encircled by a green “G,” symbolizing Gaithersburg’s small-town charm and its commitment to the environment. This emblem references the historic Forest Oak tree, a 300-year-old landmark that stood as a city icon until it was destroyed by a windstorm in 1997.
