Argentina’s Zapala City Flag Contest Ending Soon

NOVEMBER 25, 2024 — The Municipality of Zapala is reminding residents that the public competition to create the city’s official flag will end on Saturday, November 30, in a press release by the government.

The winning design will receive a prize of 2 million Argentine pesos (approximately $1,990 USD).

The initiative, announced by Mayor Carlos Koopmann, seeks to establish a flag that embodies the history, values, and identity of the community.

According to lmneuquen, Koopmann emphasized the symbolic importance of the flag, stating, “The objective of this public contest is that the city has its own flag that identifies us, that reflects our history and the values of our community, providing a strong sense of belonging, based on the spirit of work, effort, and sacrifice that has always characterized the Zapalinos and Zapalinas.”

The contest is open to participants aged 16 and older who can demonstrate a minimum of five years of residency in Zapala and hold native or naturalized Argentine citizenship.

A comprehensive guideline, available online, recommends that designs be simple, distinctive, and representative, while avoiding the use of coats of arms or logos.

Submissions must be delivered in person to the Museo Histórico Municipal by the deadline.

The city aims to have the chosen flag ready to be flown at all public buildings and monuments and to be used during ceremonial acts alongside the national and provincial flags by the end of the year.
