Tajikistan Marks National Flag Day with Presidential Message

NOVEMBER 24, 2024 — Tajikistan celebrated National Flag Day today with a statement from President Emomali Rahmon highlighting the flag’s significance as a symbol of sovereignty, unity, and national identity, Khovar reports.

The day commemorates the adoption of the national flag in 1992, following the country’s independence.

In his address, President Rahmon described the flag as an enduring emblem of the nation’s identity and aspirations. He highlighted its historical significance, linking it to Tajikistan’s statehood and independence. “The rite of waving the flag of our nation throughout its many thousands of years of history embodies the hopes, aspirations, and achievements of our proud people,” he stated, adding that it serves as a unifying symbol and an inspiration for the nation’s future.

The President also reflected on the flag’s relevance in the current global context, describing it as a representation of national identity, loyalty, and sovereignty. He called for continued dedication to protecting the nation’s independence and striving for prosperity under the banner of the flag.

The Tajik national flag features three horizontal stripes: red symbolizing freedom and independence, white for peace and tranquility, and green representing prosperity. At the center is a crown surrounded by seven stars, symbolizing the country’s historic and cultural centers.

The flag was adopted on November 24, 1992, as the first state symbol of independent Tajikistan, according to the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS States.

In 2009, President Rahmon officially designated November 24 as the Day of the State Flag.
