NOVEMBER 26, 2024 — Crane Township in Paulding County, Ohio has introduced a new flag to commemorate its bicentennial, set to be celebrated in August 2025, Crescent News reports.
Commissioned by township trustees as part of the bicentennial festivities, the flag was created by Anna Wells, niece of Trustee Kevin Stuart, and officially approved in August.
The flag’s top section is blue, representing the Maumee River, which played a significant role in the settlement and early development of the area.
A gold band stretches horizontally across the center, signifying the township’s transition from its early days to the modern era. The band acknowledges milestones such as the canal system, the 1887 Reservoir War, and the expansion of the railroads, events that shaped the township’s growth.
The flag’s bottom section is green, symbolizing the area’s agricultural roots and the fertile lands of the Great Black Swamp.
A silhouette of a wheat stalk at the flag’s center highlights the enduring importance of agriculture to the township’s economy and identity.
