Spain’s Laguna de Negrillos Officializes Its Flag After Decades of Unofficial Use

NOVEMBER 27, 2024 — Laguna de Negrillos, a municipality in Spain, has formally adopted its flag after decades of unofficial use, Leonsur Digital reports.

The decision was made during an ordinary plenary session on Monday.

The flag, which has been in use since 1966, was not officially approved at the time when the municipality adopted its coat of arms.

Despite this, it became a widely recognized symbol of the town, gaining popularity in the 1980s, especially through its use during football matches of the local Laguna FC team.

The officially approved flag features a rectangular design with a length one and a half times its height. It is green, with the municipal coat of arms placed at its center, measuring two-thirds of the flag’s height.

The green color is a nod to the left half of the municipal coat of arms and represents the town’s agricultural heritage, which remains its primary economic activity.
