NOVEMBER 28, 2024 — The city of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, has introduced its first official city flag, the result of a community-wide design contest, KTLO reports.
According to the Baxter Bulletin, the flag was presented to Mayor Carol Duss during a ceremony on Friday, November 22, at Hoevel-Barnett Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1341.
The winning design was created by Bull Shoals native Allison Wiseman and selected unanimously by judges after a brief 15-minute meeting.
Wiseman drew inspiration from the view off the west side of Bull Shoals Dam, incorporating elements such as the river, Bull Mountain, and the Top O’ the Ozarks Tower into her design.
The initiative to establish a city flag originated earlier this year when Gary Heimbach proposed the idea to the Bull Shoals City Council.
During the flag’s presentation, Heimbach highlighted the role of community collaboration and leadership.
Addressing Mayor Duss, he stated, “Your leadership has been instrumental in making this vision a reality. It is only fitting that you, as the heart of this city’s leadership, should be the first to officially receive this flag on behalf of the people of Bull Shoals.”
Heimbach further expressed hopes that the flag would become “a beacon of pride and inspiration for generations to come.”
Plans are underway to incorporate the new flag into patches for the city’s fire and police departments.
