NOVEMBER 29, 2024 — Today, in Kazan, over 300 people gathered near the Family Center “Kazan” to mark the Day of the State Flag of Tatarstan by unveiling a massive tricolor measuring 50×25 meters (164×82 feet), the largest representation of the flag in the republic’s history, News of Tatarstan and Kazan reports.
Designed by T.G. Khaziakhmetov, the flag was approved by the Supreme Council of the Tatar Soviet Socialist Republic on November 29, 1991.
The event involved schoolchildren and students in a symbolic action to honor the flag. Speaking at the event, Ruslan Shigabuddinov, deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan and head of the Regional Headquarters of the Young Guard of United Russia, underscored the flag’s role as a unifying emblem.
“For every resident of Tatarstan, it is not just a holiday but a symbol of unity and harmony. Under our common symbol live more than 175 nationalities practicing different religions. Together we celebrate such holidays as Sabantui, Pancake Day, and Pitrau,” he stated.
Tatarstan 24 reports that Tatarstan’s leader, Rustam Minnikhanov, extended his congratulations to residents on the occasion, highlighting the flag’s importance across various spheres of life as a representation of shared values and aspirations.
