NOVEMBER 29, 2024 — Sajaroff, a town in Argentina, has introduced a new flag, unveiled during its anniversary celebration, AP Noticias reports.
The design, created by Silvia Fernández and Hugo Diaz, was selected through a public vote held at the event.
The background of the flag is the Flag of Entre Ríos, representing the town’s connection to its province.
At the center, a green circle symbolizes balance, growth, and the renewal of energy. This circle is encircled by a laurel leaf, a tribute to the triumph and sacrifices of immigrants who established Sajaroff as their home.
Within the circle, a series of elements highlights key aspects of the town’s identity.
Arms breaking chains signify the freedom achieved by the early settlers. African drums acknowledge the musical traditions of Afro-descendants, who used music and dance to unwind after their demanding workdays. A white dove embodies the peace and freedom that immigrants found in the region.
The Star of David pays homage to Miguel Sajaroff, a Jewish settler who introduced cooperative ideals that shaped the community. A sulki, a traditional horse-drawn vehicle, recalls the transportation methods of the colonization period. A plow symbolizes the agricultural development spearheaded by Jewish settlers, who collaborated with Afro and Creole descendants to acquire land and incorporate new farming technologies.
