NOVEMBER 30, 2024 — The city of Turdera, located in the district of Lomas de Zamora, Argentina, has officially adopted its own flag today, InfoRegión reports.
The selection was announced during a ceremony led by Mayor Federico Otermín.
Mayor Otermín highlighted the importance of local identity during his address, stating, “It fills us with joy to be here today in a city that has such a strong identity.”
He emphasized the need to recognize and celebrate the unique characteristics of each city as part of the preparations for the bicentenary of Lomas de Zamora. “To embrace ourselves in a Lomas de Zamora that unites us,” he added.
The newly chosen flag was designed by Sasha Spagna, a local resident.
In an interview with Diario La Unión, Spagna described the thought process behind the flag’s design, explaining how each color and symbol holds a specific meaning.
The green represents the area’s abundant nature, while white symbolizes the peace and tranquility of the community. The light blue and white were chosen as a nod to the national emblem and to Club Temperley, a local sports organization. Green and white also pay tribute to the Alumni Club, one of the neighborhood’s most recognized institutions.
A tree represents the natural environment that characterizes the streets, while intersecting tracks signify Turdera’s position between the railway lines of Turdera and the Hospital Español. A book and feathers were included to highlight the area’s many schools, noting that Turdera has more students than residents. A yellow cross represents the churches and diverse religions in the community, and laurel branches symbolize the growth Turdera has experienced over the years.
