Las Playas Unveils New Official Flag Designed by Local 8-Year-Old

DECEMBER 3, 2024 — Las Playas, a town in Argentina, has introduced its new official flag, selected through a community-wide contest, Córdoba Interior Informa reports.

The winning design, created by Emma Lucía Ahumada, an 8-year-old third-grade student at Escuela Provincia de Jujuy, was chosen from a variety of submissions.

The initiative to create the flag was open to the entire community, including children, teachers, residents, and local and provincial authorities. It aimed to reflect the town’s history, culture, and aspirations. Communal President Daniela Godoy praised the project’s success, stating, “Our flag unites us as a community and reflects what we are: history, nature, and progress.”

The design features colors and symbols that carry deep meaning for the community. Green represents the connection to nature and the fertility of the soil, which are essential for the town’s economic and cultural development. White symbolizes unity, peace, and solidarity, reflecting the community’s strong sense of mutual respect. Brown evokes stability and the enduring roots of a population that has persevered through challenges. Central to the flag is a Jesuit Sun, which honors the historical and cultural contributions of the Jesuit order, emphasizing their lasting educational and religious legacy in the region.
