DECEMBER 9, 2024 — The Illinois Flag Commission did not unveil the anticipated ten finalist designs during its meeting today at the Illinois State Library in Springfield, 97.9 KICK FM reports.
Formed under the 2023 Senate Bill 1818, the commission seeks to create a flag that reflects Illinois’s diverse communities and renews state pride. After receiving 4,844 redesign submissions, the commission decided to endorse only designs featuring one or more of the following elements: Abraham Lincoln’s face, the state’s outline, and text.
In the same meeting, the commission scheduled the designs to be presented for public voting on January 1.
