DECEMBER 11, 2024 — The People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) has proposed its own design for the new flag commissioned by the municipality of Maashorst, Netherlands, AD.nl reports.
VVD council member Maarten Prinssen criticized the official design (left), describing it as “an ugly thing,” and expressed hope that the alternative design (right) would gain majority support during the council meeting on Thursday evening, where they are set to make the flag official.
The current design reflects the histories of Landerd and Uden, incorporating green to represent Landerd and blue and yellow for Uden.
However, Prinssen finds the color scheme of green and yellow to be “bare and hard” and objects to the design elements, stating, “that star doesn’t look right either.”
The VVD believes their alternative design offers a “warmer” aesthetic and aims to present it as a viable replacement during the upcoming council vote.
