JANUARY 3, 2025 — Loveland, Ohio, is inviting local artists to design its new city flag as part of the city’s 150th-anniversary celebrations in 2026, according to a press release by the city government.
The selected design will replace the current flag, which has been in use since 1974, and will be flown for at least the next decade.
The Loveland Sesquicentennial Committee is leading the initiative, offering a $1,000 honorarium for the winning design.
Eligible artists must be at least 18 years old and either live or work in Loveland. Submissions are limited to individual entries; group or organizational collaborations are not permitted. Artists can submit up to three designs, provided the imagery is original and not derivative of any existing artwork.
The city’s current flag, designed by retired Air Force captain and vexillologist Howard A. Miller, features a diagonal tricolor representing the three counties (Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren) in which Loveland is located. At its center is a red heart inscribed with the city’s founding year, 1796, and topped with a buckeye leaf to symbolize Ohio.
The new flag design must be submitted by March 31, 2025.
Once selected, the flag will be displayed at city buildings and parks as a lasting symbol of Loveland’s heritage and future.
