This day marks the adoption of the national flag by the Cispadane Republic on January 7, 1797.
This annual event, known as the National Flag Day, honors the Italian flag as a symbol of unity, freedom, and national identity. Established in 1996 to mark the bicentenary of the Italian flag, the day aims to promote national unity and pride.
President Sergio Mattarella issued a statement highlighting the historical significance of the Tricolore. He emphasized its role in embodying the nation’s identity, representing the values of freedom, democracy, and cooperation. Mattarella stated, “The flag symbolizes the pride in our civic virtues and the collective identity of the Italian people.”
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also shared her thoughts on social media, reflecting on the Tricolore as a bridge between Italy’s historical roots and its aspirations for the future.
