JANUARY 13, 2025 — Boise, Idaho is calling on its residents to contribute to the design of a new city flag, with plans to unveil the updated banner this spring, according to KIVI-TV.
The current flag, featuring a blue and white motif with the capitol building and trees, will be replaced to better reflect the city’s vibrant identity.
Mayor Lauren McLean highlighted the importance of community involvement in the redesign process, noting that the initiative aligns with a broader trend of cities updating their flags to reflect their unique identities.
“Boise is such a vibrant city, and it’s time that our city flag represents our community, history, and values,” McLean said.
The process begins with a survey, set to be released next week, allowing residents to share their preferences for the new flag’s visuals, themes, and values.
Based on the survey results, a call for local artists will be issued in early February, inviting them to submit designs that encapsulate the community’s vision.
A Flag Design Committee, consisting of diverse community stakeholders, will evaluate submissions through a blind review process.
The finalists selected by the committee will then be presented to the public for a vote in March, determining the future flag of Boise.
The survey will be accessible online, providing updates on the project’s progress. The redesign project will also be discussed at the upcoming city council work session.
“I look forward to seeing the ideas and designs that come from our community,” said Mayor McLean.
