Drouwenerveen Celebrates 300th Anniversary with New Flag

JANUARY 14, 2025 — Drouwenerveen in the Netherlands is celebrating its 300th anniversary this year with the unveiling of a new village flag, reports RTV Drenthe.

The flag is designed to reflect the community’s rich history and natural beauty. Chosen by the village’s residents, the flag is meant to be a tribute to three centuries of village life.

“The design is full of meaning,” said Jack Fidder, a member of the anniversary committee. “It incorporates green to represent our stunning nature, along with images of the church, the old school, the village hall, and various animals. It honors our 300-year history.”

The winning design was created by a local resident, Adrie van Binnendijk, who had submitted two concepts. The second design was chosen as the logo for the village interest association.

The flag was first raised during the New Year’s reception on Sunday, January 12, where residents had the opportunity to take home their own copies.

According to a Facebook post, the unveiling event drew around 100 attendees, who gathered to celebrate the start of a year filled with commemorative activities. Apart from the first raising of the flag, there was also the tasting of a specially brewed anniversary beer.
