U.S. Republicans Introducing Bill to Ensure Full-Staff on Inauguration Day

JANUARY 16, 2025 — Republican lawmakers have introduced the “Honor Inauguration Day Act”, a bill aimed at ensuring American flags are flown at full-staff on Presidential Inauguration Day, the Panhandle Times reported.

The legislation was introduced by Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz and Congressman Nathaniel Moran on Monday, January 13, in response to President Biden’s order to fly flags at half-staff for 30 days after President Jimmy Carter’s passing.

The period included the January 20 inauguration date, which some Republicans opposed.

Congressman Moran stated that “Inauguration Day should be a time for celebration and excitement as we look ahead to our new Administration.”

The move follows statements from several Republican governors, who ordered flags to be flown at full-staff on inauguration day, with plans to return them to half-staff the following day.

This action was in response to complaints from President-Elect Trump, who criticized the flag-lowering decision on his social media platform, Truth Social, accusing Democrats of undermining the significance of his inauguration.
