JANUARY 21, 2025 — Westlock, Alberta in Canada has officially adopted a new flag design following extensive community consultation and council deliberation, reports the Town and Country Today.
The updated flag, unveiled during a council meeting on January 13, marks a key step in the town’s broader rebranding efforts.
The new design retains symbols like the petunias and robin from the original flag while updating the colors and layout.
“The initial concept was more minimal, but community feedback guided us to this final design,” explained Debbie Mottus, Communications and Marketing Coordinator.
She emphasized that the changes align with the ongoing refresh of Westlock’s brand identity, which began in 2023.
Despite concerns about potential budgetary impacts, Mottus assured residents that the change would not result in additional costs.
“We already purchase flags semi-annually, so this was planned to coincide with regular procurement schedules,” she noted.
Council members acknowledged the mixed opinions on the change but expressed confidence in the flag’s role as a symbol of Westlock’s evolution.
“We hope people like it and are proud of it,” said Mayor Jon Kramer.
