JANUARY 26, 2025 — A mosque in Sydney celebrates Australia Day today by hoisting the largest Australian flag in the nation, surpassing the flag currently displayed at Parliament House, news.com.au and Mirage News reported.
The event took place at Masjid Baitul Huda in Marsden Park, where the Ahmadiyya Muslim community gathered to celebrate the national holiday.
The flag, measuring an impressive 16m x 8m (52.5ft x 26.2ft), was hoisted as part of a formal ceremonial event that included prayers, the singing of the national anthem, and speeches from dignitaries.
As one of Australia’s largest mosques, Masjid Baitul Huda offered a fitting location for this record-breaking display.
“We, the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, always pray for the progress and development of our homeland, Australia,” said Imam I.H. Kause, National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Australia.
“In keeping with our traditions, we will celebrate Australia Day at all mosques across the country. We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our nation, government, and fellow citizens because our religion teaches us that love for one’s country of residence is a part of faith.”
The day’s events also included a mosque tour and community activities, with children seen singing and holding Australian flags during the celebrations.
The 16m x 8m (52.5ft x 26.2ft) flag raised in Sydney is notably larger than the one flying at Parliament House, which measures 12.6m x 6.4m (41.3ft x 21ft).
