FEBRUARY 6, 2025 — Young people in Bourtreehill, Scotland are being invited to take part in a flag design competition to commemorate the community’s 50th anniversary, according to a Facebook post by Councillor Nairn Angus-McDonald posted yesterday.
The initiative, launched by Angus-McDonald in partnership with the Bourtreehill and Broomlands Community Association (BABCA), aims to engage local students in celebrating the milestone through creativity and artistic expression.+
The winning design will be produced as an official flag and displayed at the Towerlands Community Centre. The winner will also receive a framed version of the flag, while two runners-up will be awarded framed prints of their designs along with certificates of recognition.
“This competition is a fantastic opportunity for young people to connect with their community’s history and showcase their creative talent. Bourtreehill has a fascinating history, from its origins as a new housing development in the 1970s to the close-knit and vibrant community it is today. I am honoured to be personally sponsoring this competition and look forward to seeing how this heritage and spirit are reflected in the designs,” said Angus-McDonald in his post.
Students are encouraged to incorporate elements that represent Bourtreehill’s history, culture, and community values. Local schools will facilitate submissions, with a deadline set for Friday, April 4, 2025, just before the Easter holidays.
The winner will be announced in the summer of 2025.
