FEBRUARY 11, 2025 — Villodrigo, a small village in Palencia, Spain with 96 residents, has officially adopted its first municipal flag and coat of arms, reports El Espanol.
The decision, initially approved in October 2023 by the town council, was finalized after a public consultation and expert review.
The newly adopted coat of arms consists of a shield divided into three sections. The first section incorporates the traditional arms of Palencia, symbolizing Villodrigo’s place within the province. The second section commemorates the Battle of Villodrigo, which took place on October 23, 1812, during the Peninsular War. The third section of the shield features a representation of a Roman bridge, symbolizing the ancient settlements in the area. The initials “VR” recall the village’s founding name in the 10th century. The shield is topped with the Spanish royal crown.
The flag consists of two triangular sections: blue at the hoist and bottom, and green at the top and fly end, separated by a white diagonal stripe. The colors are drawn from the coat of arms—blue representing the first section, green for the second, and white for the third. Additionally, the green symbolizes the local landscape, while the blue represents water.
