Chester, NY Announces Village Flag Design Competition

FEBRUARY 13, 2025 — The Village of Chester in New York is moving forward with plans to create an official village flag, according to the Chronicle.

At its February 10 meeting, the Chester Village Board outlined a competition that will invite residents to submit designs, with the final selection determined through a combination of public voting and a special committee review.

A five-member committee will oversee the process, consisting of Chairman Aaron Lefkowitz, the village historian; Clifton Patrick, the town historian; Deputy Mayor Elizabeth Reilly, serving as the village liaison; a to-be-determined 10th or 11th grader from Chester schools; and an at-large community member yet to be selected. The committee is expected to be finalized by the end of February.

The competition will officially open on March 1, with details on submission guidelines to be announced. Submissions will be accepted through April 30, during which sponsors may offer gifts to the winning designer. Public voting on flag designs will take place throughout May.

On June 1, five finalists will be announced. The final decision will be made by the committee on June 14, selecting one design to become Chester’s official village flag.
