Kyrgyzstan Marks National Flag Day

MARCH 3, 2025 — Today, Kyrgyzstan celebrates National Flag Day, a day which commemorates 33 years since the adoption of its national flag on March 3, 1992, following the country’s independence, says super.kg.

The flag, symbolizing unity and heritage, has undergone changes over the years, including a recent modification in December 2023.

The Kyrgyz national flag features a red field representing bravery, a golden sun symbolizing peace and prosperity, and a tunduk—a central element of a traditional yurt—representing home and unity. The 40 rays surrounding the sun reflect the unity of the country’s 40 ancient tribes.

The flag was designed by a group of authors: Jusup Mataev, Sabyr Iptarov, Bekbolsun Jaychybekov, Mamatbek Sydykov, and Edil Aidarbekov.

Since 2010, March 3 has been celebrated as the Day of the State Flag of the Kyrgyz Republic.
