MARCH 6, 2025 — Allen County in Indiana will officially unveil its new flag on April 1 during a closing ceremony marking the end of its bicentennial celebrations, officials announced Wednesday.
The event will be held at the Rousseau Centre from 4 to 6 p.m. and will reflect on the initiatives and events that commemorated the county’s 200th birthday, according to the Journal Gazette.
The flag’s design was selected through a public competition launched in January 2024, says 21 Alive News. Residents were invited to submit their ideas, and in October, the county narrowed the choices to eight finalists, allowing the community to vote for their favorite.
Currently, Allen County does not have an official flag. Instead, a seal placed on a white background has been used in government spaces, including the council chambers courtroom and the flagpole above the Rousseau Centre.
County officials say that while seals have historically served as governmental symbols, many communities now opt for distinct flags to enhance local identity.
Following the flag’s unveiling, a reception and an exhibition of the eight finalist designs will be held. These designs will remain on display at the Rousseau Centre through April 11.
The official approval of the new county flag is scheduled for April 4 during a legislative session at Citizens Square.
