Saudi Arabia Marks Flag Day with Nationwide Celebrations

MARCH 11, 2025 — Saudi Arabia marked Flag Day today with thousands of flags raised and buildings illuminated across the country to commemorate the occasion, reports Arab News.

In Jeddah, more than 3,000 Saudi flags were displayed in streets and squares. Some buildings were scheduled to be illuminated with green light later in the day.

The Saudi flag holds significant national and religious meaning, characterized by its green color symbolizing prosperity, the Arab sword representing strength, justice, and wisdom, and the inscription of the Islamic creed.

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the current Saudi flag on Dhul Hijjah 27, 1355 AH (March 11, 1937) by King Abdul Aziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia officially began observing Flag Day in 2023 when King Salman issued a royal decree on March 1, designating March 11 as an annual national observance, says the Saudi Gazette.
