Boca Raton Seeks Public Input on New City Flag Design

APRIL 1, 2025 — Boca Raton, FL, is redesigning its city flag and is asking residents to vote on seven proposed designs, says the Boca Magazine.

The selected flag will be unveiled as part of the city’s centennial celebration.

The initiative, introduced by the Boca Raton City Council, aims to create a flag that better reflects the community’s heritage, values, and identity.

“Our current flag doesn’t currently reflect these principles, and our Centennial is the perfect time for a fresh, inspiring design,” the city stated in an announcement.

The redesign follows best practices from the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA), a flag design organization that has helped hundreds of U.S. cities develop new flags. NAVA’s guidelines emphasize simplicity, meaningful symbolism, and the use of a limited color palette while discouraging the use of lettering and seals.

Despite this, Boca Raton’s flag will retain its historic city seal, which dates back to 1950.

The proposed designs incorporate colors that represent Boca Raton’s coastal location, its commitment to preserving natural spaces, and its historical use of pink hues.

Residents can review the options and submit feedback until April 16. The City Council will then select the final design for official adoption.
