Jefferson City Residents to Vote on New Flag Design

APRIL 2, 2025 — Missouri‘s Jefferson City residents will soon have the opportunity to select a new city flag as part of a redesign contest in collaboration with Nichols Career Center’s Graphic Design Program, according to a press release by the city government.

The initiative aims to create a meaningful and modern representation of the community, and to replace the current flag (pictured) adopted in 1990 through a public contest.

Students from Nichols Career Center have developed flag designs that incorporate elements of Jefferson City’s history, landscape, culture, and future, says the News Tribune. The public will be invited to vote on their favorite design, with the winning entry advancing for final approval by the City Council.

Once the public votes are counted, the top design will undergo a review by a judging committee. Possible modifications, such as color adjustments or stylistic refinements, may be made before the final version is digitized.

If approved by the City Council, the winning flag will become Jefferson City’s new official symbol.
