APRIL 3, 2025 — Public voting is now open to select Boise’s next city flag, with four final designs available for residents to choose from, according to a press release by the City of Boise.
The decision follows months of community input and artistic contributions, as the city aims to create a flag that better reflects its identity, values, and culture.
“This process has been a truly inspiring celebration of community creativity and civic pride,” Mayor Lauren McLean.
“Each flag design tells a story about who we are as a city. Now, we’re asking the community to choose the flag that best reflects our shared values and identity, a true Boise flag.”
Boise’s current flag, which has displayed the City of Boise logo on a blue background for 35 years, is being reimagined as part of a community-driven initiative.
While the city’s logo will remain an important symbol, officials say the new flag should be a distinct representation of Boise itself.
The redesign process began with a public call for input, drawing nearly 3,000 responses from residents who shared their thoughts on the symbols and themes that should be included.
Building on that feedback, close to 140 local artists submitted original flag designs, each accompanied by personal statements explaining their creative vision.
A Flag Design Committee—comprised of civic leaders, elected officials, City of Boise staff, and local residents—reviewed each submission and selected four finalists.
Boise residents can view the flag designs and artist statements at cityofboise.org/flag and cast their votes until Friday, April 18.
