APRIL 6, 2025 — The Berberiscos comparsa, part of the Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) festival in Petrer, Spain, has revealed a new commemorative flag to mark its 50th anniversary, reports El Carrer.
The comparsa is one of several groups that participate in this annual festival, where they reenact the historic conflict between Moors and Christians. It has grown since its founding in 1975 as the youngest comparsa in the Union of Festivities.
Following an evening mass, the local priest, Miguel Cano, blessed the new flag designed by Alberto Montesinos, a prominent local designer.
“This moment is a true testament to the history and unity of our comparsa,” said Víctor Antón, the president of the Berberiscos comparsa.
Enrique Rubio, president of the Union of Festivities, which organizes the event, also expressed his joy, emphasizing the significance of the anniversary and the flag in celebrating the group’s legacy.
