Argentina’s Formosa Launches Public Contest to Design Official City Flag

APRIL 7, 2025 — Formosa, the capital city of the Argentine province of Formosa, has announced the launch of “Mi Bandera es Mi Ciudad,” a public contest to create its first official flag, reports El Comercial.

Mayor Jorge Jofré presented the initiative during a press conference held at a Hotel, joined by municipal authorities and members of the media.

The event also featured vexillologist Cristian Baquero Lazcano, who previously contributed to the design of Córdoba’s city flag. Baquero Lazcano offered guidance on the symbolic and technical considerations necessary for crafting a representative civic emblem.

“The objective is that Formosa have its own emblem to identify it in official ceremonies, sporting events, and civic moments,” said Jofré during the event. “Just as we have a coat of arms, now we aim to establish a flag that represents us with pride.”

The competition is open to all residents from the age of nine and above. Registration will run from April 9 to April 30, followed by a period of public online voting starting May 1. Each person may cast a single vote, and the final decision will be shared between public input and a specialized jury, whose members have yet to be announced.

The selected design will be officially adopted on May 23. Organizers emphasize that the process is intended to be participatory, transparent, and reflective of the community’s values and history.
