Dolavon Launches Competition to Design Its First Official Flag

APRIL 14, 2025 — The town of Dolavon, located in Argentina‘s Chubut province, has launched a public competition to create its first official flag, offering a 1 million peso ($836 USD) prize for the winning design, reports LM Neuquén.

The initiative coincides with Dolavon’s 106th anniversary and aims to strengthen its cultural identity while promoting the town as a tourist destination.

Once submissions close, the town council will select a shortlist of designs to be voted on by the public. The design receiving the most combined votes will be declared the winner during the anniversary ceremony on April 29, 2025.

Guidelines for the contest emphasize simplicity, visibility, and symbolism. The flag must use green and/or white as dominant background colors and reflect Dolavon’s geographic, historical, and cultural identity.

It should incorporate elements representing both Indigenous heritage and Welsh settlement, with specific use of blue and yellow for Indigenous symbolism—such as references to the Ñanco eagle—and red, green, and white to represent Welsh influence and the Welsh Dragon.

All symbols must be used sparingly and meaningfully, while avoiding text, numerals, or excessive detail.

Flags must also follow a rectangular format with a solid color palette and proportions suitable for practical production and clear visibility from a distance.

The municipality emphasizes that the flag should be easily recognizable and reproducible.

Officials say the contest is part of broader efforts to celebrate the town’s legacy while involving the community in shaping a shared visual identity.
