Brunswick, Maryland, Launches Community Contest to Redesign City Flag

APRIL 16, 2025 — The city of Brunswick, Maryland, has opened a public design contest to create a new city flag, with residents invited to submit entries by mid-June, says The Frederick News-Post.

The initiative, announced through the city’s website and local press, calls for original flag designs that reflect unity and inclusivity.

“The design must create a positive message of unity and be an inclusive representation for all city residents,” the official announcement states.

The contest is limited to current Brunswick residents, with each participant allowed one submission. Submissions are due on June 13.

A panel of judges will evaluate the entries in June and select three finalists based on simplicity, color scheme, and messaging. These finalists will then be posted online for public voting, scheduled to take place from June 23 to June 27.

The winning design will be announced on July 4 in a press release from Mayor Nathan Brown.

The city plans to officially raise the new flag during the annual Railroad Days festival in the first weekend of October.

Participants are required to agree to the city’s terms of use, which include granting permission for their name, photograph, design, and narrative to be used by the city.

The selected design may be adjusted by a professional graphic designer “to ensure clarity and enhance visual appeal,” according to the city’s published guidelines.
