APRIL 16, 2025 — A new city flag featuring a sea turtle motif was unveiled last week in Holmes Beach, Florida, as part of the city’s 75th anniversary celebration, reports the Anna Maria Island Sun.
The flag was introduced during an April 8 presentation at city commission chambers.
The design emphasizes environmental themes, which city officials say align with ongoing efforts to protect local wildlife and improve water quality.
“The sea turtle theme coincides with the city’s efforts to protect wildlife and to preserve and enhance water quality,” Mayor Judy Titsworth said.
Commissioners voiced strong support for the design, which omits text and the city seal in favor of a simple turtle emblem. Commissioner Dan Diggins commented, “I just think this is beautiful,” while Commissioner Terry Schaefer called it “perfect” and praised McDonough’s work.
“We hit a home run,” Schaefer said.
Titsworth noted that the turtle insignia is easy enough for children to draw and that significant time was spent choosing the exact shade of navy blue used in the flag’s background.
Plans are underway to produce smaller versions of the flag for homes and hand-held versions for community events.
