APRIL 26, 2025 — Circassians worldwide commemorated Circassian Flag Day yesterday on April 25, according to the Caucasus Knot.
In the southern regions of Russia, including Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Karachay-Cherkessia, residents participated in events that emphasized the historical and cultural significance of the Circassian flag.
In preparation for the holiday, local authorities organized educational activities in kindergartens and schools, where children learned about the flag’s origins and symbolism.
The Circassian flag, a green field bearing three crossed golden arrows and twelve golden stars, stands as one of the most important national symbols of the Circassian people. The twelve stars represent the twelve principal Circassian subethnic groups. The crossed arrows symbolize unity, peace and also strength in war.
Highlighting the flag’s emotional significance, Ali Aslanov, head of the regional branch of the Circassians political party “Adyghe Hase” in Karachay-Cherkessia, stated, “Thanks to this flag, a divided people feel like one nation. It has been with us through wars and tragic events.”
T. M. Zhuzhuyev, Head of Administration of the Khabezsky Municipal District, extended congratulations to the Circassian community, expressing wishes for prosperity and well-being.
“This holiday reflects the entire history of the Adyghe people, who, despite difficulties, preserved their roots, language, culture, and spiritual heritage,” Zhuzhuyev stated.
