Overland Park in Kansas Invites Public to Help Design New City Flag

APRIL 26, 2025 — Overland Park is seeking community input as it moves forward with designing a new city flag, according to a press release, following the recent approval of a modernized city brand.

The City has opened a public submission process, encouraging residents, visitors, business owners, employees, and students to submit flag designs now through June 1.

Submissions will be reviewed by city staff, who may incorporate elements from one or several designs into the final version. The new flag will be flown daily at city facilities and may be available for public purchase.

The initiative follows the Overland Park City Council’s adoption of a new brand earlier this week. The updated brand features modern elements, including a wordmark, a red oak tree symbol representing the city’s park-like environment, and graphic devices such as a city map and a varsity-style flag motif.

The branding effort is supported by an eight-color palette that included colors such as mint, plum, maroon and peach.

Flag designs are expected to align with the new branding guidelines, which are available for download. Designers are encouraged, though not required, to use the official brand colors, fonts, and graphic devices.

“This new brand represents a dynamic and exciting chapter for Overland Park, capturing our desire for residents to ‘Shape your city,’” said Mayor Curt Skoog. “It reflects our commitment to being modern, welcoming, bold, and optimistic. This brand fosters an even stronger sense of local pride and connection in our community.”
