Hobson City in Alabama Unveils First-Ever Town Flag

APRIL 28, 2025 — Hobson City, Alabama, has officially raised its first town flag, marking a historic moment for the state’s first incorporated all-Black municipality, reports the Calhoun Journal.

The new flag was unveiled in a ceremony led by the Hobson City Enhancement Committee, with community members gathering to celebrate the milestone.

The flag’s design features green, white, and black colors, selected to represent life, hope, prosperity, unity, and the town’s rich history.

Images of Hobson City’s founding mayor and its first five council members are also prominently displayed, paying tribute to the town’s leadership legacy.

Mayor Alberta McCrory spoke about the meaning of the flag, stating, “We have grown to just love this flag and just the very idea of having a flag that symbolizes patriotism and unity in our community.”

She emphasized the importance of the occasion, adding, “This is a historical moment and a historical event for Hobson City. We have never had a flag before, and now we do. It will fly for years to come.”

In a public statement shared on Facebook, the city described the unveiling as a “momentous occasion” and affirmed that the new symbol stands for Hobson City’s “unity and unwavering spirit.”
