Argentina’s Dolavon Unveils First Official Flag

APRIL 30, 2025 — Dolavon, a town in Argentina’s Chubut province, has officially adopted its first municipal flag following a community-led design competition held in celebration of the town’s 106th anniversary, says El Valle Online.

The winning design was selected after a close public vote. The flag incorporates several symbolic elements: a noria, representing the town’s origins; a dragon, honoring the Welsh settlers; a flecha and wings, symbolizing Indigenous heritage; and wheat, paying tribute to Dolavon’s historic flour mill.

Each element was chosen to embody the community’s diverse cultural and historical roots.

The competition, titled “Nuestra Bandera Dolavense,” was launched earlier this month with a prize of 1 million pesos (approximately $836 USD) for the winning entry. Guidelines emphasized that designs must be simple, highly visible, and symbolically meaningful.

Specific color requirements were also set: green and/or white were to dominate the background, while blue and yellow would represent Indigenous themes, and red, green, and white would symbolize Welsh influence.

Local officials highlighted the importance of the public’s participation, noting the wide engagement and strong expressions of pride from residents.
