MAY 18, 2025 — Suginčiai, a town in northeastern Lithuania, has officially adopted a new coat of arms, and flag, according to a Facebook post by the Lithuanian Heraldry Commission on Friday, May 16.
The visual elements of the newly designed symbols incorporate lilies, a motif selected to represent both the prosperity of local homesteads and a longstanding presence in Lithuanian folk art.
“Lilies are also a part of Lithuanian folk tradition,” the municipality noted, referencing their common appearance on traditional chests, textiles, and other decorative crafts.
Designed by artist Nerijus Treinys, the coat of arms features a quartered shield, with each quadrant divided by a wavy line. This motif, along with the silver (argent) fields, symbolizes the lakes that dot the Suginčiai area. The green (vert) quarters reflect the surrounding forests and the broader natural beauty of the region.
Each quarter displays a lily whose color contrasts with its field: a green lily on silver in the first and third quadrants, and a silver lily on green in the second and fourth. All lilies are oriented toward the center of the shield.
