MAY 18, 2025 — The City of Monroe, Washington has officially adopted a new flag as part of a broader rebranding effort, aimed at strengthening civic identity and community pride, in a resolution passed last Tuesday, May 13.
The new design was approved by the City Council following the launch of the city’s updated brand in April.
According to the resolution, the flag incorporates graphical elements from the city’s March 2025 brand guidelines, which were approved unanimously by the council, says the city website.
The design integrates the city’s newly adopted logo, an “M” formed by stylized images of a mountain and a bird, representing Monroe’s connection to natural landscapes and its emphasis on forward thinking, according to the city branding guide.
The bird, inspired by the Vaux’s swift, flies upward in the logo, a visual meant to convey optimism and growth. Monroe is known for its swift migration site, particularly at Frank Wagner Elementary School, where crowds gather annually to observe the Vaux’s Swifts’ roosting.
A blue gradient in the design further symbolizes goodwill and development.
The updated visual identity replaces the city’s previous branding, which featured a starburst logo and the tagline “The adventure starts here,” adopted in 2011.
The new flag will be used exclusively for official city purposes in accordance with Monroe’s flag policy.
