Argentina’s Cosquín to Design Its First Official Flag

JUNE 5, 2025 — Cosquín in Argentina has launched a public call for residents to help design its first official flag, says Hoy Día, beginning with a citizen training session on June 6 as part of the city’s emblem design contest, Cosquín en una Bandera.

The event will be led by Professor Cristian Baquero Lazcano, a national expert in civic symbols. Two training sessions will guide participants through the basics of flag design.

The initiative is part of Nuestra Bandera, a provincial program led by the Córdoba Legislature, which aims to ensure that all 427 municipalities and communes in Córdoba adopt their own emblems. As of now, approximately 140 have done so.

“The flags are identity and pride,” said Córdoba Vice Governor Myrian Prunotto. “We want each locality to have its own, for its people to see themselves reflected in it, and for Córdoba to wave with all its colours.”

Cosquín’s contest, which opened in April, allows submissions from individuals or teams of up to five people, with the condition that at least one member either resides in or is originally from Cosquín. Submissions will be accepted until August 4.

Professor Baquero Lazcano emphasized the cultural and communal significance of local flags, stating, “There is no true flag without a community that dreams it. It emerges as a visual pact between the past, the present, and what we hope to become as a people.”

The final flag is expected to be used in schools, public events, and civic ceremonies.
