JUNE 11, 2025 — An Armenian government employee has been dismissed after the national flag was displayed upside down during a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his Dutch counterpart Dick Schoof, the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reports.
The diplomatic meeting took place on May 16 during the European Political Community summit in Tirana, Albania. During the talks, the Armenian tricolour was incorrectly presented with the orange stripe on top, followed by blue and red. The error was clearly visible in official footage of the meeting.
Following the incident, the Armenian government removed the original video from public platforms. A revised version was later released, omitting any visible flags on the meeting table. The government initially cited a “technical problem” but offered no further details.
After continued questioning by Armenian media, the government acknowledged on Monday that the employee responsible for the flag placement had been terminated. The individual’s identity and position were not disclosed.
