JUNE 12, 2025 — After more than two centuries since its founding in 1797, the town of Rincón in Argentina’s Córdoba Province has officially adopted its first flag, according to information provided to the Flag Chronicle by Prensa y Comunicación.
The new emblem was unveiled on June 10 as part of “Nuestra Bandera,” a provincial program launched by the Córdoba Legislature to encourage all municipalities and communes to create their own distinctive symbols.
The winning design emerged from a local contest and was created by Camila Magalí Quinteros and Hugo Gabriel Paviatto. Quinteros, a folkloric dance teacher and administration student, and Paviatto, an accounting student and cultural group member, represented the Escuela Comunal de Danzas Folklóricas.
Their proposal was chosen for its symbolic depth and strong connection to the town’s heritage and aspirations.
The flag features five horizontal stripes in red, white, green, and sky blue, with a stylized Jesuit sun in antique gold at the center. Each element was deliberately chosen to reflect Rincón’s values and history.
The red stripe evokes the town’s labor spirit and connects to Córdoba’s provincial identity through themes of federalism and resilience. Two white stripes signify peace, unity, and Christian faith, in tribute to Saint Paul the Apostle, Rincón’s patron saint. The green stripe symbolizes agricultural fertility and rural life, while the sky-blue stripe references both the open sky and the Xanaes River, anchoring the design in national and local geography.
At the heart of the flag, the golden Jesuit sun represents guidance, knowledge, and spiritual continuity. It also serves as a historical nod to the Jesuit influence in the region.
The resolution that made the flag official also declared June 10 as “Rincón Flag Day,” a date that will be added to the town’s official calendar starting in 2026.
The flag is authorized for use in public institutions, private organizations, schools, and by any citizen wishing to express local pride, provided it is done with ceremonial respect.
An official flag-raising ceremony is planned in the coming months.
